Marshall Arts

So, the good blog news is that my good, good friend, Marshall Blonsky, has a his own blog now.  Actually, he's had it for some time.  I haven't announced it yet because it took him a while to prepare himself for posting more than just his bio.

Why am I using his name when I never do with other people? Mostly because his name is already out there.  He's a lot of things, but shy is not one of them. He thrives on attention (unlike me).

Marshall will probably be about as regular as I am about posting, though.

Anyway, I'm delighted to present Marshall Arts. Go, Marshall!

Upsetting

Prison abuse photos from Abu Ghraib upset many (including me). Part of the horror comes from the prisoner's hands outstretched like Jesus showing the wounds of his crucifiction to his disciples. Deconstructively, the man in this photo is both a symbol of extreme, ultimate sacrifice and power (Jesus resurrected with nail wounds in his hands) and extreme racial prejudice (a klansmen dressed in black instead of white). Not only is this photo evidence of Americans displaying wanton disregard for human rights by treating a prisoner this way, but it also displaces images of Christian martyrs and racist villians with images of Muslim people.

Selling Guy-Medicine

This picture came on a campaign brochure I got. When I first saw it, it reminded me of ads for those drugs that enhance the male libido. But, no. It was for a candidate.

Why did I think so?

1) Man and woman are on a large phallic symbol (the road looks like an erect male sexual organ).

2) Political ads usually have the entire family in photos, kids and all. This phote focuses on the two lovers, locked in each other's gaze.

3) Man is slightly tugging the woman in to the bushes to ... you know...
